The studio is located inside the busy mall, where parking at this hour is still tight - but possible and free. There is only one restroom available. Nice touches: lots of seating with complimentary water bottles placed on the tables (more is available for sale). The hours: The party itself starts at 9. PM and is preceded by a one- hour lesson at 8. PM that concentrates on a particular topic (like connection) and, while can be useful to a beginner, is not a substitute for a beginner lesson. The drop- in fee for the whole evening is $1. Hot RhythmicHot Rhythmic GymnasticsPM). The party goes on past midnight: 2. AM is the official cut- off but organizers declare the right to end it earlier if there would be few dancers left on the floor. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Web site for the event itself, check the Swing Dancing San Diego site http: //www. Facebook page https: //www. Swing. Dancing. San. Diego/ for details. The music is a mix of swing tunes, quite heavily weighted towards the slow blues. The crowd: on the day I visited, the lesson was attended sparsely (about 1. PM. By 9: 3. 0PM or so there were about 6. The floor of the studio is large enough to accommodate that many dancers, although during the popular tunes the floor got crowded a bit. The dancers are typical San Diego bunch: all ages, but weighted towards the younger end of the scale, more follows than leads - but not disastrously so, all levels of skills among the followers - few were true beginners, many quite advanced; mostly intermediate and advanced leads. Overall: for an intermediate or advanced lead that does not mind a lot of blues music, this is as good as it gets in San Diego. For a follower: if you can bring your own lead, do it. The sometimes challenging music mix and the lack of the beginner lesson makes HRL not the best venue for a beginner lead. Beginner followers with some basic connection skills and musicality will be most likely OK. Hot Rhythm at the Internet Movie Database This article about a musical comedy film is a stub.
